Hi Neil
About 6 months ago I bought a new Hobby Premium Drive from your garage at Ings. I am writing to you to say how pleased I have been with the after sales service. I have had a few niggling problems with my motorhome but these have been repaired promptly and to a good standard. Paul Lowery in particular has given excellent service, always completing the work to time and always replying to calls.
I was recently at a caravan rally and one of the guys there was complaining about the build quality of his current motorhome,he previously owned a Hobby and he is considering going back to a Hobby because of the build quality. The only thing that was putting him off was the poor service he received at the dealership in the NE. I told him of my experience at Ings and was considering having a look there.
In a nutshell, good service does have an effect on ongoing business.
Steve ChapmanWe attended the Motor Home show in Glasgow (February) with no intention of changing our Hobby 55ES but spotting the Hobby stand we popped in for a look see. We were immediately drawn to the new Optima T65FL and were smitten.
Discussions ensued with Rebecca regarding additions, numbers etc and the deal was done ( we hadn't even studied the brochure ). This was most unlike me who researches extensively before parting with large sums of money but as I said we loved it. Now it was a waiting game (I'm not that patient a person) but Rebecca kept us apprised of progress throughout (this is unusual normally I have to hassle companies for information). Then came the bad news, a delay in Germany at the Hobby factory. We were concerned regarding the new road tax that would commence on April 1st would come and bite us (it was unclear if Motorhomes would be affected by this) so we asked for the vehicle to be registered and taxed by 31st March. This was done for us.
With the final delay due to the shipping company we finally took delivery mid April. The handover was a totally painless operation, Rebecca attended at Ings (not her normal place of work).
OK, so in summary none of the delays were expected but none of them were due to E S Hartley. Rebecca was excellent at keeping us informed even when she had to communicate bad news (the delay). This was the second time we have dealt with this company (the afore mentioned 55ES was also purchased from E S Hartley) and they haven't disappointed.
I have praised Rebecca for her communications and indeed she made a number of things ‘happen’ for us but I guess at the end of the day it was team work at E S Hartley that delivered exactly what we asked for.
Well done Rebecca and your team.
PS We have now spent two weeks away in "Ivan the Tourable" and absolutely love it!
Sandy & JanetHi Adam,
Just like to say big thank you for all your help. We have had pleasant experience dealing with you and your company, far better than previous dealings with other dealers. Also thanks to Ian and Mike for their help.
Kind Regards
R & C HammertonHi, just to say a big thank you from your prompt and attentive response to my warranty claim. My wife and daughter collected the two fridge shelves yesterday and were really impressed by the friendly and efficient way you dealt with. Thanks again.
P.S. motor home companies get a lot of bad comments on social media, you only hear of the problems not the good experiences. I will make my motorhome facebook pages aware of my dealings with you.
Cheers
A. ClaytonTo Ian and the team,
We do not know how to express our thanks to you and the team at E S Hartley Ellesmere Port for all your patience and perseverance with our camper van. You have been helpful, curious and patient throughout. The dedication you and the team have shown in getting our van roof working has been truly professional and appreciated.
You and the team have gone above and beyond to help us for which we are very appreciative and grateful.
With Kind Regards

W & L WylieAfter meeting John and Vernon at the Motorhome Show at Event City, John showed me around a Jobl Kampa SE, his enthusiasm, passion and attention to detail made it an easy choice for me to purchase one. I've only had it a week and I'm in love with it. John has been amazing.
Many Thanks
G. RamsdaleWe called in at Ings (Kendal) last week to have some minor issues checked on our Hobby Premium Van 55. We received excellent service and advice from Paul and the Technician. Very impressed, Thank You.
Mr. C. WeakeHi Kath. Just a quick note to thank your team for making the purchase of our Hobby Optima T70GE a very pleasant experience. The only way to know if this is going to extend to the ownership experience is when you have an issue/problem. I am very pleased to say that team ES Hartley Limited have exceeded my hopes and expectations. When I had an issue with the onboard battery charger, Ian called round after work the next day and addressed the problem there and then. Would you please pass on my thanks to Ian for his excellent and professional customer support. Many thanks and all the best to you all. Kind regards.
JulianI just thought that a short mail was in order to thank you for the service that your company has provided during the purchase of our new Hobby motorhome. As you will be aware there is a local Hobby dealer to our home in Stafford but to we chose to purchase from you because of the excellent service that we have received from your colleagues. We were not intending to purchase a new motorhome at this time but Adam Stoate at the Stafford Motorhome Show was very personable and persuasive and the purchase process was efficient and trouble-free. On delivery, our new van was in perfect condition and the introduction given by your service manager Ian Woodcock was very comprehensive thereby ensuring that our subsequent Tour de France was trouble-free. We have had a few minor problems with the van but these have been dealt with by Ian and his colleagues in a cheerful and professional manner to our satisfaction. In the past, we have purchased several motorhomes from Geoff Cox, they were excellent. We have found that the personal touch is a very persuasive factor in the choice of dealer. Folk nowadays are very swift to criticise but praise is a rare commodity. In this case your company has performed to a standard and we are grateful. Kind regards.
David and Heather MatthewsIn the lakes with a leaking aircon fitting and a fridge alarm sounding, more rain forecast and Hartleys fitted us in the same day! Sorted the aircon and fridge alarm in 1.5 hours, really helpful and friendly, wouldn't hesitate to go there again. Thank you Paul, and the technician with the father and son sprockers, from Dave, Ali and the two mad springers.
Dave and AliJust would like to say a big thank you for the great customer service your Ellesmere Port Branch gave to me.
Peter SouthallThank you E S Hartley. We searched long and hard to find suitable manufacturers or suppliers. Having attended number of exhibitions in our opinion of all the firms we came across E S HARTLEY were far and away the friendliest and helpful. We have just completed our first weekend hire and the customers were delighted with the motorhome.
Breath Adventure MotorhomesWe have just received excellent customer service from Paul the Service and Warranty Manager at the Ings branch who has rectified a major warranty issue on our Hobby Motor home, the workmanship has been excellent and communication first class. Highly recommended.
Ian HaversReview: My wife and I have just returned from a round trip to Ings, where our Premium Van was fitted with new windows as part of a Hobby recall. We had a rooflight replaced also after the original design had ballooned in the autumnal heat of southern France. Knowing we had a long way to travel (from Somerset), Paul Lowery suggested we had the windows and rooflight replaced at the same time. Although the windows arrived at Ings some months earlier, the rooflight proved to be more of a problem but eventually Hobby, Germany, came through and Paul, who had kept me informed and who never failed to return my calls, arranged a date for replacement. My wife and I were made very welcome in the customer area, and even offered tea or coffee by Nigel Collins, who had sold us our van. We were not expecting the work to be completed until close of play on the second day but when we arrived back at Ings just after lunch that day, we were pleasantly surprised to find the work had been completed. The new windows and rooflight were in and the van looked like new. We have always found the staff at E S Hartley to be very friendly and Paul Lowery, who must have dreaded my telephone calls, remained calm and positive as he relayed and interpreted the information coming out of Germany regarding the recall procedures, and timing. We are now looking forward to another season of touring and trust that the new windows and rooflight will perform as well as they look. Thank you Paul.
E S HartleyI purchased a 2013 Hobby 750RL from E.S. Hartley nearly a year ago. The vehicle has not been without its problems. With the assistance of Ian, the after sales Manager we have successfully negotiated through. I am most impressed with the company allowing me to go to a local dealer and on one occasion an auto electrician all under warranty. How is that for customer care. I should add I live in the South of England so not always possible to go back to Liverpool. Thank you very much E.S. Hartley it has been a pleasure doing business with you.
Clive KnappWe've just had a warranty repair done on our Hobby motorhome. We bought it new from Hartley's almost two years ago and again we've been very impressed with their service and support. Ian, the workshop Manager, dealt with the problem courteously and very efficiently, ordered the replacement part from Germany, fitted it and restored the motorhome to showroom condition, with no quibbling or hesitation. We would not hesitate in recommending E S Hartley for their Sales and aftercare - five stars!
Grahame OxfurdMy wife and I just wanted to let you know how delighted we were by the service and help with our camper van given by your Ellesmere Port branch.
Ian and the team there were consistently thoughtful and polite in dealing with us.
Well done and many thanks.
G BellingerReview: We first bought a motorhome back in 2004 before the kids at the ripe old age of 33! "Jeffrey" was a brand new Swift Suntor and we spent a whole year touring round Western Europe before returning home with our first child on the way. I reluctantly returned to work and Jeffery had to be sold to enable us to put a deposit down on our new home. We talked for years about buying another motorhome but with our second child on the way and a big mortgage this just wasn't possible so we just kept on buying MMM and dreaming that maybe one day we might be able to afford one even if this meant retirement!
In 2008 we purchased a caravan, great concept but in reality turning up late on Friday nights with two small children meant arguments and a less than stress free time away so this was sold quite quickly and we banked the money and kept saving.
Finally and sooner than we thought we finally realised our dream in April this year 10 years after our first motorhome. We purchased a Burstner Levanto from E S Hartley in Cumbria. "Barry" had only covered 13,000 miles with bunks and a large washroom with a proper shower which was important to us as we also wanted to tour in Europe again this time on Aire's.
It would be fair to say we had a few problems which was frustrating however Kath Worrall from E S Hartley who is one of the co-owners sorted everything out at no cost to ourselves. I have to say that the service that we have experienced from Kath at E S Hartley has been second to none and despite the fact that we live over 200 miles away from the site fortunately E S Hartley have another site in merseyside and sent a technician to our house to rectify a couple of problems restoring our faith in genuine customer service, we would definitely buy from them again. So far this year we have spent nearly 50 nights away in "Barry" including nearly three weeks away in France and have further trips booked away throughout the winter including New Years Eve.
In conclusion don't be afraid of buying from a far providing that you have agreement in advance of purchase from the dealer as to how they will look after you when the inevitable happens.
Nick MayGreat service and great deal. Having worked and known Simon for over 12 years, I knew we would be in safe hands. Just had our first major outing in our new motorhome and everything was great. Thanks again Si
Brian & Shirley MBoth sales and after sales support excellent, a friendly and professional team. Special thanks to Simon M for his dedicated service and support.
